About Action for Carers Surrey

Who We Are:

Action for Carers Surrey is a carers-led charity based in Guildford. We currently support over 15,000 carers of all ages right across Surrey, with free information, support, advice, events and much more. A carer is someone who provides unpaid help and support for someone with a long-term physical disability, mental health condition or problem with drugs and alcohol. We estimate that there are currently 120,000 carers across surrey alone.

What We Do:

We support carers by phone, through face-to-face meetings, support groups and workshops. We help with benefits advice, advocacy, give practical guidance on moving and handling, and provide a wealth of information and free resources. We have specialist support too. Our young carers team supports young carers (carers aged under 18), with free information and support, plus workshops, activities and groups, to give young carers time out from caring and help them achieve as much as they can in life.

Why We Need You:

All the money you raise will enable us to organise events and activities for young carers. Helping to give young cares time away from their caring roles, to meet and socialise with people in a similar situation, let their hair down and for them to just be themselves without feeling guilty. “These groups have truly been a godsend to our teenage son. Although he has only had three sessions, the improvement to his emotional well being and happiness has been huge. He gets to be a regular teen, with others who also know how hard things can be as a young carer. Thank you so much for these sessions – they’ve been just what was needed.”
